Printable graph paper
Pick a pattern and a grid size, then download a PDF that prints at exactly that size. Square, dot, isometric, hexagonal and ruled, on any common paper. Free, and nothing to sign up for.
The PDF is drawn in real millimetres, so print it at 100% scale — not “fit to page” — and the grid measures exactly what it says.

Printing it correctly
Browsers and print dialogs like to resize pages, which is what makes most printable grids come out slightly wrong. Two settings matter:
- Scale: 100%, not “fit to printable area”. In Adobe Reader this is “Actual size”.
- Paper size in the dialog must match the sheet you generated. Printing an A4 PDF on Letter shrinks it by about 6%.
To check, measure ten squares of a 5 mm grid: they should span exactly 50 mm. If they come out at 47 mm, scaling is still switched on somewhere.
Frequently asked
- Will the grid print at the exact size?
- Yes, provided you print at 100% scale. The PDF is drawn in real millimetres, so a 5 mm grid measures 5 mm on paper. Turn off 'fit to page' or 'shrink oversized pages' in the print dialog, as those rescale the sheet.
- Is it free, and can I use it for work or teaching?
- Free, with no sign-up and no watermark beyond an optional one-line caption you can switch off. Print as many copies as you like, including for classrooms and commercial work.
- What grid size should I choose?
- 5 mm is the usual European school and engineering grid, 1 cm suits younger children, and quarter inch is the US classroom standard. For bullet journals, 5 mm dot grid matches most notebooks.
- Does it work on A4 and US Letter?
- Both, plus A3, A5, Legal and Tabloid, in portrait or landscape. The grid is centred so the margins stay even on whichever paper you pick.
